Why We Started This Foundation
When Karter was diagnosed at age 5 his parents Nicole Fraser and Richard Bourgeault made the difficult decision to explain what was happening and allow Karter to be a part of every appointment. At such a young age Karter knew he was sick and had to fight. His HUGE heart wouldn't allow him to only fight for himself. He wanted to fight for everyone who has ever or ever will battle Cancer. He asked that his story be documented and shared with the world in hopes to open people's eyes and educate them on this "rare" disease. Nicole and Richard being very private people, were faced with the tough decision of opening their
lives, pain and reality to the world for public viewing. Unable to deny their son this request, they underwent interviews with the news, allowed family to create and publish a Facebook group and GoFundMe. They began recording and posting pictures of doctors appointments, radiation appointments, medications tried, their journey in searches for trials, and everything in between right up to the very end. Every raw detail and feeling was shared, all the laughs, tears, research, education and support given and shared through Karter and even his funeral was all out there for everyone to see. It was decided early on that a Non-profit would be created not only to help others where no help can be found but also to keep Karter's memory and fight ALIVE.
Our Mission Is To
DIPG and other childhood Cancer continue to be rated according to the stats from the 1960's even though the number of diagnosis continues to rise.
As a family we want to help bring DIPG/childhood cancers funding and rating into this century. The battle the children fight against this destructive and deadly disease needs to be recognized and acknowledged. Their lives matter which is why we created a non-profit organization to help fund further research and help provide funding for families suffering this disease.
